Took a nap a short while ago.
Baby on my chest, pillows propped
on either side of us as guards
to prevent my rolling over.

Slipped into sleep.

Was riding in the back
of my friends car.
Baby on my chest.
My friend was drunk.
Driving. Running a red light.
I was drunk. Passing out.
I struggled to say
before the blackness
"Watch out. The light it red."
I didn't care.
The oblivion came.
My friend drove my son
and I through a red light.
I didn't care.

I woke safe in bed.
My son asleep on my chest,
the way it should be.
Sober.
